Conrad's father John Gadsby Chapman painted this scene.

"This was an important battery. Men are at work on the fortifications. The rocks shown in the picture have (sic) brought out remarkably well; in fact the artist himself has stated that he has used these rocks in a great number of his pictures, having never had a better combination of such."
